PA-8018-C1
AWS Specification: AWS A5.5 E8018-C1
JIS Specification: NONE
Other Specification: NONE
I. APPLICATIONS:
The PA-8018-C1 is designed for use in the welding of nickel bearing steels for low temperature applications where toughness of the weld metal is important. Such applications include shipbuildings, storage, piping and tanks used in the storage of gases.
II. DESCRIPTIONS:
The PA-8018-C1 is a high quality E8018-C1 electrode designed for applications of 2% nickel deposits. The outstanding characteristics of this electrode provide good puddle control with excellent welding action and tie in. The coating is specially formulated to resist moisture pick-up under conditions of high heat and humidity.
III. NOTES ON USAGE:
-
Dry the electrodes at 350-400°C for about one hour before use and store the electrodes at 100-150°C after drying them with attention to keep away from moisture.
-
Adopt back step method or strike the arc on a small steel plate prepared for this particular purpose, because arc striking on base metal is in danger of initiating cracking.
-
Keep the arc as short as possible.
-
Preheat at 100-150°C. The temperature to be applied varies in accordance with plate thickness and kind of steel to be welded.
-
Pay attention not to exceed proper heat-input because excessive heat-input causes deterioration of impact values and yield strength of weld metal.
